The Burlington Writers Workshop offers nearly 300 free workshops each year in Burlington, Montpelier, and Middlebury, as well as master classes and various full-day writing retreats throughout Vermont. Most of our current workshops meet Online, but we do have in-person workshops. We ask that you attend at least one workshop before requesting to submit your own work for review.

A few important notes. If you are new, please be sure to read! Thanks!
Welcome to Writingscapes! This workshop is a space in the Burlington Writers’ Workshop (BWW) where writers can explore different genres through prompts. We write for 10 minutes using each prompt as we interpret it, then share what we wrote (only as desired!), and repeat, with discussion in between. This workshop is a space and atmosphere of positivity and compassionate comments.
Each week, we focus on a different genre or theme. Though the prompts are geared towards traditional fiction genres, all writers – poets, creative nonfiction writers, playwrights, etc. – are welcome!
IMPORTANT INFO FOR NEW MEMBERS
– Zoom waiting room
We use Zoom for our meetings, including a waiting room. If you’re not familiar with Zoom’s waiting room, it’s just a facet of the program that allows the host to see who’s ready to join the meeting, but participants won’t actually be in the meeting until the host lets them in.
– Zoom name
For security reasons, please make sure your name on Zoom matches the name you used to sign up for the workshop(s). Adding pronouns is fine (and encouraged)! I just want to make sure I’m able to tell that everyone in the waiting room is signed up for the workshop. 🙂
*In other words, if I can’t tell who you are on Zoom, I will not be letting you in from the waiting room.*
Alternatively, if you are unable to change your Zoom name (and it doesn’t match your sign up name), please email me what that name is ASAP so I can see you’re supposed to be there.
Finally, if you have a change of plans, please be sure to cancel by clicking on your profile in the top right hand corner, then “tickets”, the name of the workshop, and “cancel order”. This is very important to tell if there are enough members attending for a meeting. Thank you!
