The BWW seeks the following team members for The Best of the Burlington Writers Workshop 2017. These are volunteer positions in a collaborative, supportive, and learning-based environment. Ideal candidates must be able to meet in person at least twice over the course of the book’s production (October 2016 – February 2017). To apply, please fill out the form below. Deadline: September 30, 2016 or until positions are filled.

Lead editors

We are looking for 3 lead editors—1 in each of the following genres: fiction, nonfiction, and poetry.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to get more involved in the BWW, share their existing editing experience while deepening their editing skills, work within a collaborative editing team, help writers realize the full vision of their work, and play an important role in the production of a publication that represents some of the best writing from within our community.

Editors will be responsible for:

  • Leading their respective genre’s editing team to select the final pieces for publication
  • Working collaboratively with authors and the Best Of editing team to bring out the best in each piece through careful and considered editing and discussion
  • Promoting authors through well-written author bios, interviews, and introductions at readings
  • Helping to coordinate and host one of the several public Best Of book tour readings
  • Collaborating with the team to effectively market and sell the book

In today’s market, the success of a book depends on more than simply doing an excellent job selecting and editing its contents. It also depends on a robust marketing effort. Editors will be asked to use the full weight of their social influence to encourage the general public to read the book and attend one of the stops on the book tour. In general, once the book is published, editors must be an ambassador and advocate for the book.

Assistant editors

We are also looking for a team of 3-6 assistant editors—1-2 in each of the following genres: fiction, nonfiction, and poetry.

The assistant editor position is the perfect opportunity for someone who wants to be involved in the Best Of production, but may not feel entirely comfortable taking on the full commitment of a lead editor role. It’s also a great role for those who want to build their editing skills, work within a collaborative editing team, and play an important role in the production of a publication that represents some of the best writing from within our community.

Assistant editors will be involved in:

  • Selecting the final pieces for publication
  • Working collaboratively with the Best Of editing team to bring out the best in each piece through careful and considered editing and discussion
  • Copy editing each piece in their respective genre
  • Promoting authors through author interviews (optional)
  • Helping to coordinate and host one of the several public Best Of book tour readings (optional)
  • Collaborating with the team to effectively market and sell the book

Assistant editors will also be asked to use the full weight of their social influence to encourage the general public to read the book and attend one of the stops on the book tour.

Marketing & events manager

This is a new role in The Best Of team this year. This role is a great opportunity for someone who is interested in either contributing their existing marketing and events management skills toward a community-led creative endeavor, or building their skills in this area for future related opportunities.

The marketing & events manager will be responsible for:

  • Organizing and ensuring timely publication and promotion of author interviews
  • Leading the coordination of the Best Of book tour readings
  • Leading the team’s efforts to effectively market and sell the book

The marketing & events manager will also be asked to use the full weight of his or her social influence to encourage the general public to read the book and attend one of the stops on the book tour.
