Opportunities and Announcements: Week of August 24, 2015

Well, we could not have asked for a better day—or location—for the 2015 BWW August Free Writing Retreat. Camp Abnaki proved to be a beautiful spot for relaxed writing and creative inspiration as well as a chance for members to connect over shared meals and activities. Thank you to our Retreat Committee and to everyone who participated for making it such an amazing day. The group unanimously voted that this should become an annual BWW tradition so look for more Camp Abnaki retreat information in 2016!

Opportunities

Workshop and conference opportunities

The Vermont Playwrights Circle is hosting an all-day conference on Saturday, September 26th at St. Michael’s College in Colchester. It’s a day for theater professionals to get inspired, share their work, and take hands-on playwriting workshops. Learn more at VermontPlayWrightsCircle.org >

Join us to study Rainer Maria Rilke. Through our member poll, you’ve picked our poet of study for September’s 3-week, Monday evening poetry series. Sign up for the first workshop in the series (Monday, September 14th at 7 pm) >

Volunteer opportunities

Represent the BWW at the Burlington Book Festival. We’re looking for BWW members to help staff our table at this year’s Burlington Book Festival, September 25-27. This is a nice opportunity to help spread the word about the BWW while also meeting other writers and editors at the festival. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered so far. If you’re interested in taking a shift at the table, please contact us >

Help keep the BWW space open. This is a great way to get involved while also getting some dedicated time to write in a quiet space. If you’re interested in volunteering for a morning or afternoon shift at our 22 Church Street space, please contact us >

Announcements

The Best of 2015 Book Tour continues! Join us on Thursday, September 17th, 7 pm, at the Darkroom Gallery in Essex Junction for an evening of readings with authors featured in this year’s Best of the Burlington Writers Workshop anthology. Sign up for the event >

A huge thank you to Karin Ames and Michael Freed-Thall, BWW Retreat Committee members, for their excellent work in putting together the successful August Free Writing Retreat. I’d like to specifically thank Karin for all her efforts in scouting out the excellent location at Camp Abnaki and coordinating all of the details with the camp staff to ensure a wonderful, relaxing day for all.
