Opportunities and Announcements: Week of September 15, 2014

Thank you to everyone who came to “Community Night” at Bluebird BBQ. We raised a total of $260 for the BWW, which is awesome and greatly needed.

If you couldn’t make it but would still like to help us pay for BWW expenses, please make a donation here. We need your support. Thanks!

There are quite a few opportunities and announcements for you this week, so here they are.

The BWW is organizing a free writing retreat for women only on October 25th at HOWL. Details are here.

Howard Frank Mosher is coming to Hotel Vermont for a BWW-sponsored reading on Tuesday, October 21st. He will discuss just one of his books. We’re conducting a poll to decide which of his books he’ll discuss, and you can respond to that poll here.

The Burlington Book Festival is coming up this weekend and the BWW will have a table in the lobby of the Fletcher Free Library, where the festival will (mostly) take place. Stop by! The BBF also needs a few awesome volunteer photographers who can take pictures at the events on Saturday. If you’ve got a fancy camera and some time to spare on Saturday, please contact me and we can work out the details.

Last call for digital storytellers to take part in this year’s StoryhackVT competition. We need a few more BWW team members to compete during the weekend of September 27th. Please contact me if you’re interested. We’ll pay your entry fee.

We’re still accepting submissions for the next Hotel Vermont book. Please send your submissions through the BWW’s submission page.

The BWW has now standardized the way it charges for advertising. We have a table of rates. If you’re an author looking for publicity, an organizer of a writing conference in Vermont or out of state, or someone offering a service for writers, this is a great way to get your message out and support Burlington’s writing community. Forgive me for sounding like a salesman, but I would be remiss if I didn’t inform you all of this opportunity. That said, here’s a new regular segment of these Monday posts:

Thanks to Marble House Project for supporting the BWW. They offer writing courses in Southern Vermont, and you can learn more about it here.

Thanks to Quantum Leap Capital in South Burlington for supporting the BWW. For several months, QLC has been a great supporter of this workshop. QLC offers financial planning for people of all ages and income levels.
